BBC director general resigns over “shoddy journalism”

Former BBC director general George Entwistle speaks to the members of the media after appearing before a Culture and Media Committee hearing at Parliament in London October 23, 2012.

BBC Director General George Entwistle resigned on Saturday, just two months into the job, after the state-funded broadcaster put out a program denounced by the corporation’s chairman as shoddy journalism.

The BBC, reeling from revelations that one of its former stars was a paedophile, brought further problems on its head when a flagship news program aired a mistaken allegation that a former senior politician sexually abused children.

The BBC had already issued a full apology on Friday, but on Saturday its director general had to admit under questioning from his own journalists that he had not known in advance about the Newsnight report, weeks after being accused of being too hands-off over the previous scandal on the same program.

Accepting Entwistle’s resignation, BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten said: “This is undoubtedly one of the saddest evenings of my public life.

“At the heart of the BBC is its role as a trusted global news organization.

“As the editor-in-chief of that organization, George has very honorably offered us his resignation because of the unacceptable mistakes — the unacceptable shoddy journalism — which has caused us so much controversy.”

Entwistle quit after strong criticism over the Newsnight program.

“I listened to the director general with increasing disbelief,” John Whittingdale, chairman of parliament’s powerful media committee, told Reuters. “The level of failure of management at every level within the BBC, up to and including the director general, is just extraordinary.”

The BBC and its bosses have been under huge pressure since a rival broadcaster carried charges last month that the late Jimmy Savile, one of the most recognizable personalities on British television in the 1970s and 80s, was a prolific sex offender.

EXPOSE WITHDRAWN

Suggestions have surfaced of a paedophile ring inside the broadcaster at the time and a BBC cover-up. To complicate matters for Entwistle, Newsnight pulled a planned expose of Savile shortly after his death last year, and the BBC went ahead with tribute shows.

Having been widely criticized for not broadcasting that expose, which led to its editor stepping aside, Newsnight is now being lambasted for its November 2 report on sexual abuse at children’s care homes in North Wales during the 1970s.

Steve Messham, a witness, told Newsnight that a senior Conservative had raped him when he was a child in one of the homes.

Newsnight did not identify the politician, but the name of Alistair McAlpine, Conservative Party treasurer from 1975 to 1990 during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership, quickly appeared on the Internet and social media sites.

On Friday, McAlpine went public to rigorously deny the allegations and threaten legal action.

Hours later, Messham said he had misidentified McAlpine to Newsnight. The program admitted it had not approached McAlpine for a comment, or shown Messham a picture of McAlpine, before airing the report.

Castigated for what he agreed was a slow response to the Savile disclosures, Entwistle demanded a report on the incident by Sunday and suspended all Newsnight investigations.

The erroneous Newsnight report had been cleared by senior managers and lawyers, and commentators queried why Entwistle had been kept in the dark in the wake of the furore over Savile.

Prophet TB Joshua’s prophetic vision concerning 2012 USA elections – Video

TB Joshua said: “For the past two months now, I’ve seen this but I don’t want to— We should pray for President Obama. We should do something quick on health care because they are going to use this against him. I will not say more than that. Because I see there will be wrestling. The wrestle— It will be very close. The battle will be very, very close. It’s not advice. It is what I’m seeing on the board. It’s a vision.”

Roki ‘horror show’ as ex-wives move in together

Roki seen here with ex-wife Melody Musekiwa

Former Big Brother Stargame housemate and controversial urban groove singer Rockford “Roki” Josphat has housed his ex-wives Pauline Gundidza and Melody Musekiwa under one roof.

Roki, who is famed for trying to have his own version of the Jackson Five, with his kids, also perform with his two ex-wives — Pauline as a backing vocalist and Melody as a dancer. In an exclusive interview with Saturday Lifestyle, Roki said the move was meant to cut costs and give him time to concentrate on his music career.

Ironically, the talented yet naughty singer has since moved out of the house to live with some friends just a few kilometres away from where his ex-wives are. They are all living in Waterfalls.

“Its true that they are staying together, (Pauline and Melody) they don’t have problems with each other, in fact they gang up against me. This is purely business decision, inga anababa vedu vaisiya anamai kumusha vachinoshava wani hapana chinoshamisa, its about progress” said Roki.

He said he was looking after his ex-wives, and taking care of their day-to-day expenses. “One of my guys is not here; he has gone to drop some groceries there. I look after them well but I no longer want to have other children, its time to make money,” he said.

Roki has five kids with four different women — two kids with Pauline, one with Melody and another two with unidentified women. Roki made it clear that dating women were no longer on top of his priority list.

“I think I now need a girl to hang out with on Sundays only. After a week of working tirelessly one needs a girl while chilling at home, but it’s no longer important to me,” said Roki, who is reported to be dating one of her dancers, Tari, an allegation he played down.

“I am not seeing her, she is my dancer. People think so because I spent most time with her rehearsing,” said Roki. While Roki and friends live in a well furnished house, his ex-wives had to be content with living in a backyard cottage at a place where electricity was disconnected by Zesa for non-payment.

Aware that the media was on their toes, Pauline and Melody were evasive on every question posed by this reporter, with Melody even refusing to disclose her surname. To add weight to Roki’s revelation, social media chats between Melody and her close friend reviewed that they were indeed staying together with Pauline.

“I don’t have any problem staying with Pauline; in fact no one was forced to. Roki said it’s good so that we reduce the costs. Roki has since moved to live with Discord and other boys,” Melody chatted, on the social network, Whatsapp.

She also bemoaned the place they were lodging were not up to scratch saying the electricity was disconnected. “Sha ma one, pamba pacho hapana magetsi apa landlord vanechikwereti che US$3 500,” reads another chat.

Lovedale Makalanga, popularly known as Discord, also confirmed that they were staying together with Roki in a chat. “Roki is now with the boys and Melody and Pauline are staying together,” he chatted.

When contacted for comment, Pauline threatened to seek peace order against journalists. ”I have had enough of you, I don’t want to comment, if you continue pestering me I will report you to the police,” she said before hanging up her phone. Herald

I’ll rather get married for money than settle for true love. Money is everything: Brags Maneta

One of Zimbabwe’s representatives at Big Brother star game, Maneta Mazanhi has suggested that she would rather get married for MONEY instead of settling for ‘true love’.

Maneta, who was chucked out of the Big Brother game, posted this stunning revelation on her Twitter account last Wednesday. The tweet read: “Speaking of which I’ll rather marry for money, *** love because it’s overrated”

She further posted that she will rather be in a miserable union but leading a comfortable life.

Money does not buy you happiness, but it’s better to be miserable in a Lamborghini and a huge mansion, going for shopping sprees in South of France.

Maneta emphasised that ‘MONEY’ was everything and that it was NECESSARY, hence she would marry for it than marry for love.

Those who disagree that money is not everything must stop going to work every morning, stop hustling, park your cars, give away your clothes.

Maneta became the subject of ridicule when she was booted out of the Big Brother game together with her rival countryman Roki, who is a prominent urban grooves singer.

Meanwhile, soon after Big Brother Stargame, Maneta has hooked up with socialite, Wicknell Chivayo who is said to have funded the shopping spree that Maneta enjoyed in Asia in July.

This made Maneta’s fans and members of the public speculate that Maneta is dating the ‘rich young man’ Wicknell. She however denied the claims and claimed that they are just a ‘brother and sister’ who are spoiling each other.

“B.I.G is my brother, why would I get married to my brother??” said Maneta as she thumped her nose at people abusing her on Twitter.

“I’m ready for my journey, all I have is my handbag!!! I’m goin fo a major axx shopping spree…. Asia here I come. Damn the future is Neva guaranteed!! 3mnths ago I’d Neva hav guessed that life would be this great! I love my life!! *sigh,” she bragged.

The pair have said they are not dating but have become ‘CLOSE’. Wicknell, popularly known as B.I.G, and is said to be one of Zimbabwe’s richest youths, said in the same month that he would soon buying a car for Maneta.

Driving a silver BMW X6 the businessman showed he meant business, pledging to silence all his and Maneta’s “haters”.

“I am buying her a car this week. I am just waiting for quotations from dealerships and I will purchase it for her. It is my way of making the haters hate more and show them that they do not even matter. Maneta and I will be like brother and sister. She is my sister and also a very nice girl. As for plans of hooking up in the other way, no. That relationship will not even last as I have a girlfriend and Maneta is too small for me anyway. I love big women,” he said in July.

Wicknell ‘BIG’ Chivayo, is believed to be one of Zimbabwe richest youths, if not the richest one. He owns several properties in Harare, drives several latest cars and often spends time overseas, especially in the United States where he buys expensive designer clothes among other things.

Roki (father of 6 official children with 5 women) dumps another wife again

Rockford “Roki” Josphats has dumped his dancer wife of two years, Melody Musekiwa. The two have a one-year-old baby girl named Dawn. Roki’s wife is said to have had enough of his bed hopping and when she was pushed she left. Melo spoke of a rocky four months.

“Ever since Roki returned from Big Brother, things have not been the same at home. He just started accusing me of a lot of things and was never as nice as he was before he left. After a little while, he started dating girls that I know and doing stuff with them even in my presence,” she said.

She said the singer’s actions denigrated her as a wife and it made their friends and colleagues despise her.

“He has been embarrassing me in front of our friends. I think it’s the Big Brother fame that is causing this. When he went to Big Brother, he was a loving husband and father, now life seems to be all about him,” protested the dancer, famed for her waist wriggling and raunchy dance moves at her estranged husband’s shows.

Melo said she just wished there was something else she could do to take care of herself and her baby besides dancing.

“It is sad because I have to stick around someone who has hurt me badly. I have no choice because I need to keep on dancing for him so that I can have a roof over my head and food and clothes for my little baby,” said Melo.

Roki maintains that there is nothing wrong with the breakdown of his marriage with the dancer.

“I have been called a lot of names and things in my life, but I have been very responsible lately. I actually believe I changed for the better because, unlike my previous splits, this one has been less dramatic. You see, when adults break up, it is different. We have been living under the same roof and she is the one who takes care of all of my children. There is no way I can let my children be homeless or go without food. So I will ensure that they are all safe, including Melo,” said Roki.

Said a source close to both Roki and Melo: “When the chips were down and no one was around for Roki, this girl was there. All the pretty girls had run away because Roki was struggling to make ends meet, now that things are better, he dumps her.”

Before Roki went to Big Brother he hardly held shows and was living off pittances from recording underground artistes. His children were staying with his mother in Seke communal areas while the few shows he held would flop time and again. It is during that time when his life had shrunk that Roki started co-habiting with Melo and their union was blessed with a baby girl. He even confirmed then that Melo had been with him through “thick and thin”.

“Melo is a sweet girl and has been with me through everything. When the last woman in my life threw me out of her life, I decided to move on. Suddenly I realised that I only had Melo beside me and everyone else was gone,” he said at the time.

He even went on to name his daughter Dawn, saying because she signalled the beginning of new things – “she is like the bringer of light, hope and a new day”.

He later represented Zimbabwe in the Big Brother StarGame and came back rejuvenated and resuscitated his waning music career. But with money Roki was back chasing skirts.

Said Roki: “I have good relationships with all my baby mamas and, as you know, I have a perfect mutually beneficial working relationship with my first wife (Pauline Gundidza). This will be no different, Melo and I will continue working together in the band so that she can take care of herself.

“We have been living under the same roof for a while now, but the truth is our love life has been dead for some time. We had to stick together for our toddler. I needed to make sure that she was at least a year old before parting ways.”

On the issue of moving out of the house he was staying in with Melo, the baby and his cousin Discord, Roki said the move arose out of the need to strategically position his studio.

“The place we have been operating from was not good for business. We are moving to a place that is by the road in Mainway Meadows and that should be strategic for the studio. In the meantime, I will be living there, but I intend to move to different place later on,” he said.

Roki said he would ensure that Melo would have a roof over her head. However, Melo, was by Thursday still frantically trying to secure accommodation. The Chidzoka hitmaker would not divulge why they had parted ways or whether he had paid lobola for the dancer, preferring instead to talk about his upcoming DVD album and single titled Zuva neZuva to be released soon.

The eccentric Zimbabwean singer officially puts the number of his children at six with five different women, but people close to him put the figure for his children at nine. It has also emerged that most of his children are FIRST BORN children!

Zambia will fall says Ndong

Zambia © Shengolpix

Former Enugu Rangers’ man, Jesus Ndong, has predicted that African champions, Zambia will be dethroned at next year’s Afcon in South Africa.

Ndong told supersport.com from his base in Madrid, Spain that he believes the Chipolopolo “will do well” but defending their title will be out of their reach.

However, the Equatorial Guinean did not mention which nation will be crowned African champions next year though he tipped Nigeria believing their chances are based on their performance with each game.

“No, Zambia won’t win the Nations Cup but they will do well,” said Ndong in a blunt and straightforward tone.

Nigeria & Group C foes

But the former Stella and Mogas 90 attacking midfielder said the Zambians will win Group C ahead of Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

And he picked the Africa Cup of Nations holders and Nigeria as the teams to qualify from their group.

“I think Zambia and Nigeria will pass (through Group C into the next round). I have seen all the teams (in Group C) play and I think with what I saw Zambia will top the group but Nigeria may go ahead and win the cup if they improve match by match,” said the Equatorial Guinean.

Ndong thinks Zambia will have an easy passage into the quarterfinals while Nigeria’s Super Eagles will be put under stern test from Group C opponents.

“Like I said it will be easy for Zambia because everybody will come out for the Super Eagles. Right now Zambia are not doing badly and they are very rich in confidence too,” he said.

But Ndong will not stick his head outright to predict who will win the Afcon in 2013 as he believes there will be many talents to be showcased from the 16 participating teams.

Equatorial Guinea missing the Afcon

However, Ndong feels let down that his nation failed to qualify for the 2013 Afcon after playing co-hosts with Gabon in 2012.

He, however, believes that Equatorial Guinea will work hard for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers as well as reach the 2015 Afcon

“Yes but it’s okay we didn’t qualify but we wish we did. We shall prepare for the World Cup and the next edition (of the Afcon in 2015) and we shall surely be there, as football is becoming a very popular sport in our country,” he remarked.

Ndong was born in Spain but was brought to Nigeria at the age of seven by his parents. He was formally educated in schools in Ibadan, Abeokuta and Lagos.

Surprisingly, he started out as a basketball player by representing Oyo and Ogun states.

In 1986, he dumped basketball to become a professional football and played for Stationery Stores FC, Enugu Rangers, Sharks, Julius Berger FC and Mighty Jets in the Nigerian top division.

Ndong also played for Ivorien clubs, Stella and Asec Mimosas and Mogas 90 in Cotonou, Benin Republic during his playing days.

DID FERNANDO TORRES DIVE?

Here’s a question for you:

Was Fernando Torres fouled by Jonny Evans or not?

I just want to gauge the opinion of as many Chelsea, football fans on this issue because it seems that there IS a divided opinion.

Even Gary Neville on SkySports after the game said it was the wrong decision and showed a close up video of the footage that shows Evan’s catches Torres on his shin.

You have to remember that Torres was walking a fine line already after being booked in the first half (which should have been a red card anyway) so you have to ask yourselves whether or not Torres would “dive” knowing that situation with diving these days and the focus it has received of late.

Should Evans have been carded instead for putting himself in that position and going to ground or do you feel as though Torres should have stayed on his feet?

Would love to hear from as many of you as possible on this!
