CHIPOLOPOLO SET CAMP FOR NATIONS CUP QUALIFIER


African champions Zambia have set residential camp to prepare for what will effectively be the start of her Nations Cup title defence. The Chipolopolo host the Cranes of Uganda at Levy Mwanawa

sa Stadium this Saturday in the first leg of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chipolopolo set the camp Sunday evening and commenced training Monday. Already in the camp with local players for the weekend games include Angolan based players Felix Katongo, Lawrence Phiri, Kampamba Chintu and Joseph Musonda. The rest of the players are expected to arrive Monday evening and on Tuesday. Tuesday arrivals include European based stars Jacob Mulenga of FC Utrecht, Emmanuel Mayuka of Southampton and William Njobvu of Be’er Sheba. Porto’s Emmanuel Mbola is also expected Tuesday. Also expected Tuesday is the Chinese legion of skipper Chris Katongo, James Chamanga and Isaac Chansa.

The five players from TP Mazembe, from a 2-1 win over al Ahly of Egypt are expected Monday evening.

Herve Renard has called 24 African champion superstars to begin Zambia’s defence of her Africa Cup crown against Uganda.
As a result of the change of the Nations Cup calendar from even to odd years, the next continental finals will be hosted by South Africa in January and February of 2013. Zambia won her maiden Nations Cup in Libreville on February 12 this year when the Chipolopolo beat the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 8-7 on penalties after a goalless play over 120minutes.
